Lincoln City Make FA Cup Quarter-Final History
2017
📅 18/02/2017
Lincoln City reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in 2017 while playing outside the Football League.
Lincoln City's extraordinary 2016–17 FA Cup campaign brought non-league football into the national spotlight. The Imps defeated several Football League opponents before travelling to Premier League Burnley in the fifth round. A late goal from Sean Raggett secured a 1–0 win and sent Lincoln into the quarter-finals, a remarkable achievement for a club competing in the National League. Their run eventually ended against Arsenal, but that defeat did little to diminish what had come before. Supporters had enjoyed a journey that crossed the usual boundaries between full-time professional clubs and the non-league pyramid. Lincoln's achievement demonstrated how a well-organised side, belief and a little cup magic can carry a club much further than its league position might suggest.
